ROBERT BAILEY GREEN, STAFF SERGEANT, U.S. AIR FORCE, BIG SPRING, HOWARD COUNTY, TEXAS AWARDS AND DECORATIONS Purple Heart, Air Force Commendation’s Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal BIOGRAPHY Robert was born and raised in Lampasas, Texas. He was a 1958 graduate of Lampasas High School. He entered the Air Force right after graduation. He was career Air Force. He had served at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring from July 1963 until he was assigned to Thailand in July, 1966. He was married to Donna K. Green and was the father of a daughter, Kelli. While on his Vietnam tour, his wife, Donna remained in Big Spring. On October 25, 1966, Staff Sergeant Robert Bailey Green and A1C Richard A. Nance of Galveston, Texas were both assigned to the 432nd Tactical Recon Wing at Udorn RTAFB in Thailand. Both men were passengers of a Laotian Air Force C-47 (registry RLAF 0398) and the aircraft crashed and was lost. There are no details on the crash and there were no other known Americans on the aircraft. SSG Green and A1C Nance’s remains were never found. It is speculated that the pilot flew the aircraft into the ground. The area where the the plane was thought to have crashed, was known for its low cloud banks and he was a dense jungle mountaneous area. It is thought that the pilot may have thought he was at a higher altitudew through a mountainous area of Laos.
