PHILLIP DEXTER GARDNER, CORPORAL, U.S. ARMY, ODESSA, TEXAS AWARDS AND DECORATIONS Combat Infantryman's Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, RVN Military Merit Medal BIOGRAPHY Phillip Gardner was born in San Angelo, Texas, the son of Martha and Girvous O. Gardner. He attended schools in Midland and graduated from Midland High School, Class of 1966.  Philip Dexter Gardner, 10th Grade-Midland High School
Phillip moved to Odessa and he was drafted into the Army from Odessa in February 1968. He completed basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas and infantry AIT at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He departed for Vietnam on August 30, 1968 and was assigned to D Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry, 198th Light Infantry Brigade who were under the operational control of the 23rd (Americal) Division.

Gardner on right at Night Lager Position-May 1969 Phillip was wounded by an explosive device on June 5th, 1969 while on patrol. He was medevaced and died from his wounds, June 6th, 1969.
