BIOGRAPHY

Phillip Gardner was born in San Angelo, Texas, the son of Martha and Girvous O. Gardner. He attended schools in Midland and graduated from Midland High School, Class of 1966.

Phillip moved to Odessa and he was drafted into the Army from Odessa in February 1968. He completed basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas and infantry AIT at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He departed for Vietnam on August 30, 1968 and was assigned to D Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry, 198th Light Infantry Brigade who were under the operational control of the 23rd (Americal) Division.

Phillip was wounded by an explosive device on June 5th, 1969 while on patrol. He was medevaced and died from his wounds, June 6th, 1969.


Fairview Cemetery, Midland, Texas

Phillip was buried with full military honors at the Fairview Cemetery in Midland, Tx.
