On Pass AIT-Fort Polk, Louisana-Summer 1968 On January 29, 1969, Specialist Segovia's company was in the field on patrol. They had set up a NDP, (Night Defense Position) and Specialist Segovia's platoon was charged with defense of a section of the NDP. Each platoon sent out soldiers for L.P. (listening post duty) to an area about 50 meters out and stragetically around the company area. Each squad of about 15 to 20 men would then have five or so guys on guard duty for the three hour shifts. The others would get the opportunity to sleep. Each soldier was expected to perform his tour on guard duty. Specialist Segovia was attacked and killed by a tiger sometime in the early morning of January 30, 1969. He was not missed until his turn for guard duty came up and he could not be found. His remains were found the next morning. Fairview Cemetery, Midland, Tx He was buried with full military honors at the Fairview Cemetery in Midland, Texas.
